Motorola Xoom 4G Upgrade E-mail An Error

Published

on

Yesterday we reported that there were certain Motorola Xoom users who have received an email from Motorola saying that the 4G upgrade to their Motorola Xoom was available and all they had to do was send the device back to Motorola to make the necessary hardware adjustments.

Turns out that email was actually sent out in error:

A very small number of Motorola XOOM users recently received an email from Motorola regarding the 4G LTE upgrade process.  While we are very excited about being able to offer the upgrade this summer, and know our customers are equally excited about the benefits that 4G LTE speeds will bring to their Motorola XOOM, the email was sent in error.  We apologize for any confusion this may have caused, and look forward to being able to share more specifics on how — and when — users can take advantage of 4G LTE on their Motorola XOOM in the near future.

Quentyn Kennemer of Phandroid speculated that perhaps the email was sent out as a test in their automated system which would notify their users about the upgrade, which might explain why only a small amount of users had received the email. Not to fret because if they were indeed testing their automated system it could mean that the upgrades may be ready to roll out soon, so perhaps not a total loss.
