iOS 5: New Notifications Center

Published

Yesterday reported a photo leak of what looked like a new notifications system that Apple would be using for their new iOS 5 and as it turns out the photo was more or less an accurate concept of what the real and new iOS notifications system looked like.

The current iOS notifications were intrusive and forced the user to stop whatever they were doing in order to attend to the notifications, so they could either reply the notifications or choose to ignore it until later, sometimes leading to users totally forgetting that they had a new text message waiting for them.

The new iOS 5 notifications center seeks to eliminate that instrusiveness by notifying users through the top part of the phone, much like how yesterday’s photo leaked looked like. Some have criticized Apple for the way the new notifications center was designed. Android users have claimed that Apple was copying Android’s design while other Apple users have claimed that this was nothing new especially for those who have jailbroken their iOS devices and installed Mobile Notifier. Not surprising because if the rumors are true it seems that Apple has recently hired the creator of Mobile Notifier Peter Hajas to work for them so it’s really no surprise that the new notifications are reminiscent of his work.

I for one love the new notifications system, rip-off or not it’s still an improvement over what Apple had prior to iOS 5. Guess you just can’t please everyone.
