In terms of computers Intel has been doing rather well for themselves, pretty much dominating the market with AMD being their only competitor, but even then there seems to be more Intel chips about than AMD, but when it comes to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, Intel can hardly be found. In fact mobile devices these days are powered by Qualcomm, NVidia’s Tegra and Texas Instrument’s OMAP and Intel has made no secret of its desire to enter the smartphone market and perhaps enjoy the same success it has had with the computer market.

Intel hopes to gain some success with their smartphone process, the Medfield, in smartphone devices which should be appearing some time next year. While Intel’s chips are more performance orientated, ARM chips these days tend to be more cost efficient and power efficient, something the majority of smartphone users are looking for, so how will Intel do with their Medfield? I guess we have to wait until next year to find out.
