Google Translate API’s Here To Stay, For A Price

Published

on

Not too long ago we reported that Google was shutting down their translator API’s due to extensive abuse, which meant that developers had to go somewhere else for their translation purposes, possibly Microsoft’s Bing which was a free alternative.

However it seems that Google’s decision was not well received and many people voiced out their feelings against Google shutting down their translation API’s and it seems that Google has actually taken the time out to listen to everyone’s requests and opinions and have decided that they will not be shutting down their translation API’s.

The bad news?

The bad news is that Google will now be charging users to use the API’s, meaning that this could weed out third party developers who were abusing the API’s and limit them to serious developers who have serious and real uses for Google’s translation API’s. No word on what the pricing will be like or how the pricing system will be like, monthly, yearly, a license perhaps?

Google’s product manager Adam Feldman had this to say, “In the days since we announced the deprecation of the Translate API, we’ve seen the passion and interest expressed by so many of you, through comments here (believe me, we read every one of them) and elsewhere. I’m happy to share that we’re working hard to address your concerns, and will be releasing an updated plan to offer a paid version of the Translate API.”
