Google Renewed Mapping Deal With Apple

The other we reported that Apple would continue to use Google Maps for the iOS devices and now thanks to Eric Schmidt, Google’s executive chairman, he confirmed that Google and Apple have renewed their mapping deal. This was revealed at the D9 conference.

He said that while Apple and Google are rivals in the mobile market, they also make valuable partners. If they have renewed their deal could it be that we will be seeing Google Maps on our iOS devices for some time to come? While it seems that Apple has acquired several mapping technologies I guess thanks to this renewed deal we will not be seeing Apple’s native mapping services come to iOS 5, perhaps a couple of updates later, but for now iOS Google Map fans you can continue enjoying their services for now.
