Fring Launches Group Video Chat

Good news, if you were hoping to get group video chat capabilities on your iPad 2, Fring may have an alternative for you as they have recently brought group video chat on to the iPad. Best of all, the app is free and is now available in the iTunes Appstore. This is great news for those who probably this is a feature they might have to pay for. It also works on the iPod touch and iPhone with front facing cameras but since the group video chat was optimized for a larger screen size, we’re guessing it won’t be as fun doing group chats on the smaller iPod touch/iPhone screen, as compared to the 9.7-inches of the iPad 2.

Good news is that unlike Facetime, it does not rely only on WiFi connections, but video calls can also be made on 3G connections, although we’re guessing this should eat quite a bit into your data usage, but at least it’s an alternative.

“Fring is empowering tablet users to unleash the power of their 9.7-inch screens beyond movie watching and gaming to rich, fun personal video communication […] With Group Video on the iPad, we are changing face to face video chat. Users will now be able to video socialize on big screen tablets enjoying seeing their friends wherever they are–as they commute, sunbathe at the beach or wait for coffee at a café.”
