Apple’s iPad/iPhone Promotions Are Strict

Third party promoters beware because it seems that Apple has rather strict guidelines that one has to follow, especially if you plan to promote the iPad or the iPhone as a third party. It seems that Apple has gone about shutting down several promotions for iPads and iPhone dues to them not following certain guidelines that Apple has laid out for them.

Some of the said requirements are:

  • iPad, iPhone and the iPhone Gift Card may not be used in third-party promotions.
  • iPod touch is only allowed to be used in special circumstances and requires a minimum purchase of 250 units.
  • You may NOT use the Myriad Set font on or in connection with web sites, products, packaging, manuals, or promotional/advertising materials.
  • The use of “free” as a modifier in any Apple product reference in a prominent manner (headlines, call- outs, etc.) is prohibited.
  • You must submit all marketing materials related to the promotion of Apple products to Apple for review.

Do you think it’s fair for Apple to be enforcing such strict rules? After all it’s not as if Apple is actually giving away the devices themselves, but rather they were purchased by others which basically is the same as you or me going out and purchasing an iPhone or iPad and giving it away to a friend. On the other side of the coin Apple does have a right to protect how their products are being promoted, after all I am sure Apple would not like to have their iPads or iPhones being associated with something bad. What do you think?
