Will Apple Use Samsung’s AMOLED For iPad 3?

Rumor has it that Apple’s COO Tim Cook has recently made a trip to South Korea to discuss the possibility of using Samsung’s AMOLED displays for the next generation of iPads. According to The Korea Herald:

“Apple wants to tap into Samsung’s AMOLED technology for an upgraded version of the iPad2, considered as many as the iPad3 that is likely to be launched toward the end of this year. During Cook’s trip last week, Apple seems to have offered Samsung an advance for the AMOLED displays.”

This rumor seems a little off for a couple of reasons. For one what with the lawsuits between Apple and Samsung regarding patent infringement, it seems rather ironic that Apple would be courting Samsung to use their products for the next iPad. Next the AMOLED display is one of the features that Samsung has been heavily advertising and using as a key feature in order to push their devices out, so why would Samung allow Apple to use their display and create competition with themselves?

Lastly if the rumors are true, Apple would be the first company to push out a tablet device with AMOLED display, and this is before Samsung, the ones who own the AMOLED display, get their own versions out on the market. With all rumors it’s best taken with a pinch of salt, although a shred of truth might be in there. After all one of the features I felt was missing from the iPad 2 would be the lack of a nice crisp display. In fact many Apple fans out there were hoping that they would be seeing the Retina display being used for the iPad 2, so it’s not much of a stretch to think that Apple is indeed shopping around for some new displays for their next iPad.
