ViewSonic’s 7-inch Honeycomb Tablet

Well it looks like ViewSonic may very well beat Acer to the punch as they have recently unveiled their new 7-inch tablet that would be the first of its kind in its size class to ship with Google’s Android Honeycomb 3.x operating system. Now we know that Acer had plans for a Honeycomb 3.x 7-inch tablet with their Iconia Tab A100, but unfortunately it was delayed because Google did not think that Honeycomb 3.x was suited for 7-inch tablets therefore did not release the source code to Acer. Not too sure on how ViewSonic managed to get the Honeycomb 3.x source code for their 7-inch tablet but it’s good news for those who want the Honeycomb experience in a smaller package.

The ViewSonic ViewPad 7x will feature a 7 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display and will be powered by a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor. It also features a HDMI output and an HSPA+ modem for mobile broadband. There will also be front and rear facing cameras. Pricing is unknown at the moment and so is availability, although they should probably look to release it fast because Acer may very well catch up to it.
