Samsung Apollo To Get Froyo 2.2

If you ever wanted a good example of Android fragmentation try this one on for size. Orange UK has just announced that they will be rolling Android’s Froyo 2.2 for the Samsung Apollo. Granted this phone was out almost a year ago and came shipped with Android 2.1 but now a year later it’s been updated to Froyo 2.2? Rather slow if you ask me, I wonder how Samsung Apollo users have been managing, unless they have managed to root the device and installed the Froyo 2.2 update themselves.

In case you forgot what the Apollo’s specs were, it comes with a 3MP camera, 3.2 inch touch display, music player, microSDHC card slot, Wi-Fi and A-GPS. Not very exciting but a good example of Android fragmentation. However we can now hope with Google’s announcement during I/O that they are now working together with phone manufacturers that we will start seeing less and less fragmentation in the coming months/years.
