Powermat Joins The Wireless Power Consortium

In case you don’t know what the Powermat is, it is essentially a mat that allows you to charge your phone and other devices just by simply placing it on top of it, thereby eliminating the need for multiple wires and sockets and extension cords, so it is really no surprise to hear that Powermat has decided to join the Wireless Power Consortium’s Qi initiative.

While at the moment no company has actually offered Qi with their devices it seems that you can soon add it to your phone if you own either a HTC or LG device, such as HTC’s Thunderbolt where you now have the option of buying the wireless charging battery cover whereby you replace the current battery cover with the wireless one instead.

Perhaps with wireless power starting to gain momentum, the issue of running out of battery in the middle of the day might soon cease to exist.
