One Down, One More To Go For Apple’s Cloud Music Service

It looks like Apple is wasting absolutely no time in securing licensing deals for their cloud-music based service, most probably in an attempt to beat out their competitors, Amazon and Google who are both currently facing licensing issues.

So remember how we said only just yesterday that Apple and EMI had already reached an agreement with regards to licensing and how Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music were still in talks with Apple, most probably concluding the negotiations by next week?

Well it looks like Apple has managed to close the deal with Sony yesterday evening, which means it’s left with only Universal Music in talks which at the rate they are going could be any time soon. However this is just one of the steps that Apple will be required in order to make their cloud-music service completely legal as they would still need to talk to publishers and get licensing deals with them. This is because publishers control other aspects of the music, mainly dealing with composers and lyricists while the record labels focus more towards the artists and bands.

However with the success that Apple has had with the major labels it doesn’t seem likely that they will be facing obstacles with regards to the publishers. So are you looking forward to streaming your cloud-music from all your iOS devices?
