Nvidia Branded Mobile Phones, Maybe?

Published

So I am sure we have all heard the news that Nvidia has acquired baseband make Icera, a company similar to Qualcomm although I am pretty sure most Icera is not a name you hear often.

With this acquisition Nvidia will be able to provide solutions to different manufacturers based on what they want, rather than offering one single fully integrated chip, they will now be able to “customize” what is required due to the fact that Icera’s chips are programmable.

With this acquisition does this mean that perhaps one day in the not to distant future we will be able to see Nvidia branded mobile phones entering the market? If you think about it they already have the processor, and now the baseband chip and not to mention the resources at their disposal, who’s to say that Nvidia may not one day enter the mobile phone market and compete with the big boys such as Samsung and Sony Ericsson?
