NFC Will Be A Topic At Google’s I/O

What’s up with Google and NFC anyway? If one had to take a guess, one might come to the conclusion that perhaps Google is attempting to take advantage of their popularity and market share and make NFC a standard with future devices and having the technology supported by the commercial sector as well. As evidenced with yesterday’s post whereby NXP Semiconductors’s CEO mentioned that Google was anticipating at the very least 40 to 45 million units this year.

In fact so much so that apps such as foursquare and Hashable decided to make use of NFC to test out some ideas that they had with foursquare allowing users to check-in, or rather “tap in” by tapping an NFC enabled device against the poster pictured to the right.

Hashable now allows users to swap contact information or check-in together simply by holding both NFC devices against each other which is an efficient way to exchange contact information rather than having to type it in manually.

However as to whether Google will be successful at making NFC a standard that remains to be seen, but at the very least if you went to Google’s I/O and checked in with foursquare you will be able to earn the Google I/O badge.
