Next iPhone To Be SIM-less?

According to various sources there seems to be a lot of finger pointing towards Apple’s next generation iPhone to be a SIM-less device. This seems to go against the news that Apple along with French carrier Orange have filed for proposals to the European Commission to make SIM cards even smaller. This was done so that Apple would have more space within the iPhone for additional designs or features.

Apple had originally wanted to do an embedded SIM card design that would allow customers to select a plan and network carrier all from the Apple store itself but apparently that upset carriers who felt that they might be getting marginalised.

So what reason would Apple have to suddenly have a change of heart and go for a SIM-less phone? Better question would be how would this work with carriers and how would they feel about this new plan of Apple’s, should the rumors turn out to be true. What do  you think? Does a SIM-less iPhone make a big difference to you? Personally the ability to remove SIM cards let’s me feel a sense of freedom, not to be locked to a carrier for as long as I have my device, but if this is true let’s see how it turns out.
