Microsoft Draws The Line At Phones With Nokia

While the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia looked like it was a good idea, not only for the phone manufacturer who was  slowly being over taken by Apple, but also for Microsoft whose Windows Phone 7 operating system did not quite take with the masses like they had hoped it would, it seems that that’s pretty much where Microsoft draws the line.

According to Michael Hsu, Nokia’s General Manager Market Taiwan, “Microsoft’s tablet plans do not include Nokia” to be more specific he added that Ovi maps will not be featured on Microsoft’s up coming tablet operating system. He states that this is because Nokia is currently extremely focused on their core competency, doing what they do best, which is manufacturing mobile phones.

As it stands the tablet market is starting to get rather competitive with Apple, Samsung, Motorola and RIM being the main players so if Nokia is already starting to lose hold on their position in the mobile phone market, perhaps dividing their time and resources into a market so competitive might not be such a good idea. Perhaps Nokia should also wait to see if their success with Windows Phone 7 will take before considering moving into tablets, and if Microsoft has no plans for Nokia how would they feel if Nokia were to team up with Google for tablets instead?
