LED Panel Leaks Cause iPad 2 Shortage?

If you’ve recently bought an iPad 2 and you’re wondering why you are noticing light spots in certain parts of your iPad 2, fret not as you may not be the only one experiencing such a problem.

According to DigiTimes the leak is due to some problems LG Display had with their production which is why they could only ship out 3.2 million units in the first quarter whilst their competitior Samsung Electronics managed to push out 9.7 million units in their first quarter. This has resulted in Apple asking LG to stop production on the LED panels and passing the contract to Samsung. Reportedly LG Display has managed to resolve this issue and will be back in production for Apple in the second quarter.

Some has speculated that due to the leak and LG Display unable to match Samsung’s shipment, it could be one of the reasons behind the iPad 2 shortages in the recent weeks. Apple’s Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook called this “the mother of all backlogs” with regards to the iPad 2.

However if you are on the hunt for an iPad 2, the iPad 2 Scanner and iPad Locator are excellent websites to check for the stock at your local Target.
