iOS Leads The Way As Money Maker For Developers

While it seems that the Android Market is on its way to overtake the Apple App Store in terms of overall apps available, a recent study done by app research firm Distimo found that while Android was indeed catching up to Apple’s App Store, in terms of money making for developers, Apple still proved to be in the lead.

They found that free apps tended to do better in Android’s Market while paid apps did better in Apple’s App Store, considering that Apple’s App Store has three times as many paid apps as Android. For those interested in the numbers, it seems that 79.3% of all paid Android apps have been downloaded less than 100 times while only 4.6% of paid apps were downloaded more than 1,000 times.

Now among free apps on Android Market, only 19.6% of apps have been downloaded less than 100 times while 48.2% were downloaded more than 1,000 times, showing that Android users tend to lean towards free apps more.

Android users out there is that true? Do you think that because Android is open source and the lack of quality control is what deters you from paying for an app?
