iOS 5 Will Continue Using Google Maps

I can’t speak for all iOS users but I for one found Google Maps an invaluable tool while overseas and had to find locations while driving or walking. While there were no turn-by-turn directions included in Google Maps, the general direction that it provided proved sufficient for me, so I’m quite happy to report that it seems that Google Maps will still remain as an app in iOS 5.

Yes admittedly Apple is trying to distance itself from Google, what if Google being a direct competitor in terms of smartphone and tablet platforms with Android, and it was speculated that Apple would be creating its own map services thanks to their recent purchases of Placebase and Poly9. It was further backed up by job postings and Apple’s promises for under-the-hood tweaks for their next generation of iPhones, iPads and iPod touches, but for now it looks like if you’re a fan of Google Maps on iOS devices, you will be able to continue enjoying Google’s map services just a little longer, granted it could use an update or two to bring it up to par with the Android and web based maps.
