HTC Desire HD, Incredible S gets Gingerbread OTA

Great news for Desire HD and Incredible S users who haven’t already rooted their phones for a custom Gingerbread ROM – HTC has officially announced on its support page that the two phones will be receiving the long-awaited update to Android starting today.

The update which brings the phones up to Android 2.3 will be rolled out through an OTA (Over The Air) update. If you receive a notification to update your phone, just make sure you’re on a WiFi connection (unless you have a data plan to waste) and that you’ve backed up all the data on your phone. Just in case things go wrong – you never know when these things will happen.

The Gingerbread will update will bring the HTC Desire HD to build number 2.36.405.5 after the update while the Incredible S will be at 2.12.405.7. It’s been a long time coming (except for the Incredible S that was only released recently), and the new update should bring a lot of goodness to the Android phones. Namely, an update to the user interface, native support for SIP VoIP telephony, improved virtual keyboard, and more. No word on whether it will bring native video calling to the Incredible S, but if you guys do get the update feel free to let us know in the comments below.
