Google Voice’s Additional Charges To Sprint Call Recipients

Published

About 2 weeks ago Sprint announced that Google Voice integration was now live and running but now it seems to have hit a snag. It seems that while callers using Google Voice to make their phone calls aren’t being charged, it seems that those who are receiving the calls are the ones that end up being charged. Just a little background on Google Voice. It is actually a telecommunications service that is offered by Google that allows users to link calls and text messages made to any phone with a specific number.

Apparently the charges are being incurred because the number that is used by Google Voice is being treated as a landline number by the national number database so when callers receive the call by Google Voice it ends up eating into their anytime minutes which could lead to additional fees.

Sprint has noted that there is no way of changing this at the moment and are instead encouraging users to stick with their Sprint number as their primary number instead. I guess there’s really no such thing as a free lunch.
