Father Of The Cell Phone Thinks AT&T T-Mobile Merger Is A Huge Mistake

Meet Martin Cooper, the father of the cell phone. In 1973 he first showed the entire world the first cell phone that weighed in a 1.1kg and had a talktime of barely 30 minutes. Apparently he still has a love for cell phones as he is known to change phones every couple of months and his lucky grandson gets all the hand me downs. He also thinks it’s a bad idea for the government to approve the merger of AT& T and T-Mobile. He thinks AT&T just wants to own T-Mobile to increase its exclusivity by adding more spectrum.

He suggests that instead of carriers asking for more spectrum or buying each other over, he said the government should instead encourage carriers to develop technology that would allow more data to be pushed through the current spectrums that are available. Seems like a valid point and who better to listen to than the father of cell phones himself!
