Did Motorola Drop The Tegra 2 For OMAP?

Published

on

Earlier this year the Motorola Droid Bionic was announced and it would be attached to Verizon and it would also be sporting NVidia’s Tegra 2 processor. Come several months later and there was still no sign of the Droid Bionic but there were rumors that the Droid Bionic might have been cancelled. Then a Motorola spokesperson came forward and said that the Droid Bionic was not cancelled but rather delayed as they were collecting feedback in order for the device to provide customers with an even better consumer experience.

However now it seems that thanks to a benchmark that was sent to NenaMark it looks like the Droid Bionic might be running on a totally different processor, not NVidia’s Tegra 2 like it was supposed to, but rather on Texas Instruments’s OMAP 4430 and 4440. What could be the reason behind this switch? Cheaper costs? Better performance? Either way this added delay is probably not going to be looked upon well by Motorola fans or Verizon customers alike. Not to worry we’ll keep our eyes peeled for you and let you know of any further developments, so do check back!
