Colored eInk Thanks to Ricoh

In the world of e-ink, it seems that Ricoh has just developed a new color e-ink screen that is supposed to offer 4x the color range of whatever’s available now and give 2.5x the brightness which means clearer images and text. Just like other e-ink screens, Ricoh’s screen does not require any backlighting and consumes very little power. Perhaps Kindle should be looking into this.

E-ink generally tends to lend itself toward e-readers, providing a more natural reading feel to the device which is also supposed to be less strenuous on the eyes. As far as colored e-ink goes there really does not seem to be any need for a colored Kindle, after all who reads books in color anyway?

On the other side of the spectrum what this could mean would be the color e-ink screens to be used for magazines for e-readers, or even children’s books which could open up a new market, or perhaps for education purposes where textbooks in the future will be available on e-readers instead, saving space and the environment too.
