Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich Optimized For Texas Instruments?

Published

on

Word has it that Google might be favoring Texas Instruments’s TI-OMAP chips for their upcoming Android operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich. Traditionally in the past Google has never really favored any particular chip manufacturer which was part of their policy on openness and as a way to combat fragmentation, although the latter still poses an issue till today. However if the rumors are to be believed then Texas Instruments might be Google’s preferred choice.

Two days ago we reported that there was speculation that Motorola’s Droid Bionic had dropped NVidia’s Tegra 2 chip in favor of Texas Instrument’s OMAP chip, and with this rumor surfacing could it mean that Motorola knew about this beforehand and were hoping to stay ahead of the curve by favoring OMAP in anticipation of Ice Cream Sandwich? Does this seem a bit far-fetched, or could this just be purely coincidence?  It does make for some good speculation, although like all rumors its best to be taken with a grain of salt and see what develops further down the line. Let us know what you guys are thinking.
