Acer Stalls Iconia Tab A100

Bad news for those who are intending to get the Acer Iconia Tab A100 as it seems that the Android tablet has been delayed although there has been no mention as to how long the delay will be for. Turns out that the Android Honeycomb 3.0 operating system was designed with 10-inch tablets in mind, not 7-inch tablets which is what the A100 is. Unlike it’s 7-inch siblings, the Acer Iconia Tab A100 has remained steadfast in their decision not to use the smartphone operating system version of Android, Gingerbread 2.3, which is why the A100 has been delayed.

What all this means is that no thanks to the 7-inch display, the operating system was not functioning as intended, with many apps reportedly not working properly due to the small display. Google has practiced not releasing Android Honeycomb 3.0’s source code to tablet makers who plan to make 7-inch or smaller devices as it was not intended for those purposes. If Acer is waiting on Google to fix that they might be in for a very long wait indeed. Alternatively Acer could always hold out for the Ice Cream Sandwich Android operating system that is supposed to see a Fall release, although by then interest for the A100 tablet may have very well gone and passed.
