T-Mobile G2x to receive Android 2.3 Gingerbread soon

When it comes to the world of Android-powered smartphones, there are many models out there which offer different operating system versions, hence leading to the problem of fragmentation. While carriers as well as hardware manufacturers have started to work harder to bring the latest operating system version to the masses, not many of them have managed to keep up with the times consistently and successfully. Good thing for owners of the T-Mobile G2x (also known as the LG Optimus 2X), as T-Mobile USA has just announced via Twitter that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update is going to be here “sooner than you’d expect.”

According to the company, they are already testing Gingerbread on the G2x before the phone even hit the market, so it makes perfect sense that this statement would hold more than just hot air. We do look forward to the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update that ought to deliver a fresher user interface for the G2x compared to the rather plain Android 2.2 Froyo build which it shipped with.

Of course, hopefully this update will also fix the random boot issue that has plagued some units of the G2x to date, as well as LCD screen bleeding issues – although those seem to be more of the exception than the norm.
