Trust the folks over at iFixit to take the recently introduced iPad 2 Smart Cover apart to kill a cat (or rather, satisfy your curiousity). There are, in total, a whopping 21 magnets inside that makes both the iPad 2 and its Apple-branded Smart Cover align properly, where 21 magnets are located in the accessory itself while the remaining 10 are stuck inside the iPad 2. One magnet is used to turn off the iPad 2 display, while the rest of the magnets will see action in clamping down the case or form the triangle shape which lets the case function as a stand. At least you now know how it works – and we’re pretty sure that the magnets inside will last for a long time to come, since you won’t be dropping your iPad 2 anytime soon, right?
