Android 2.2 Froyo is the Dominant Android OS Version

The Android developers regularly release details regarding the most popular Android versions being used, once in every fifteen days. This habit in turn helps the developers to target particular Android versions while developing varied applications for the Google OS. As per their latest results, it is Android Froyo which rules the scene with an overwhelming share of 61.3% of all devices. The other competing versions in this survey include 1.5, 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.3.3 and Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Froyo was the leader in the previous survey as well, and interestingly the share has only risen for version 2.2 despite the advent of 2.3 and Honeycomb.

The data for the survey was gathered by taking into account the number of users who connect to Android Market. It is no surprise to see why 2.3 is not being widely used as the Nexus S and Nexus One are the only two devices that run it primarily. Honeycomb though seems to be on the rise, although the overall share is still a modest 0.2% of the total users.
