Verizon completes its first 4G VoLTE call

The folks over at Verizon have happily announced that they have successfully completed a test of voice calls over its 4G LTE network, known as VoLTE. The carrier made several calls from its headquarters over the 4G network using LG Revolution 4G smartphones and also browsed the web and accessed other data services while participating in voice calls. Verizon has already launched its 4G network back in December 2010, but it currently only supports data, so this is definitely a step in the right direction. Verizon has mentioned that at least until late 2012, LTE phones will be making their voice calls on Verizon’s 3G network and step up to LTE when it’s available for data. Sounds like we’re inching closer to more phones like the HTC ThunderBolt, aren’t we?
