MapQuest, the creator of a free map and navigation service has just released the MapQuest app for the Android operating system. So for those of you looking for an alternative to Google Maps, MapQuest fits the bill. What makes MapQuest unique is that it uses OpenStreetMap – maps that can be easily edited and updated by the community, so this basically means that you can have excellent maps for certain areas, while find some other places unusable – it all depends on how helpful the people familiar with the area are. Either way, MapQuest gets you where you need to be with its turn-by-turn voice navigation feature that guides you whether you are walking or driving. It also has voice search and live traffic updates for those car journeys. MapQuest runs on Android 1.6 and above, and can be downloaded for free on the Android Market.
