The GT-I9003 is the Super LCD Samsung Galaxy S?

Quite awhile ago, there was a Samsung phone with the model number GT-I9003 spotted, but nobody had any idea what it was. Speculation led us to believe that it was the fabled Nexus S, but that phone was released with the model number GT-I9020 so rumors were put to rest, and the GT-I9003 forgotten – until today. There have been new rumors surfacing that the GT-I9003 will be the replacement model for the current Samsung Galaxy S phone that has the model number GT-I9000. Designed to replace the current Galaxy S phone sold in the rest of the world outside the US, the GT-I9003 is said to be pretty much the same phone, except that it packs a Super LCD display instead of Super AMOLED.

This rumor seems quite likely due to the fact that there still is a shortage of AMOLED screens available worldwide, and that the Nexus S that will be released in Russia won’t have AMOLED screens either. Let’s not forget that Samsung will be releasing the Galaxy S 2 which will pack Super AMOLED Plus screens, so it could be a tactic of Samsung to give them one less reason to stick with the current Samsung Galaxy S. Either way until light is shed on the devices, we won’t know for sure. But if the I9003 is the Galaxy S replacement, let’s hope it ships with an updated version of Android.
