Google Latitude for Android now supports check-ins

Just when you thought there were enough social check-in services available, Google decides that it wants to be part of the whole check in game as well. They have just released an updated version of Google Maps that now supports check-ins through the use of Google Latitude. What’s great about Google’s check-in app is that it allows you to automatically check into places so you don’t have to interrupt conversation or fumble about with your phone once you enter a new area, and it also automatically checks you out of places – so people aren’t left guessing to see if you’re still at your favorite hangout or you’ve already left. And just like other check-in apps, you can earn statuses such as “Regular”, “VIP” or “Guru” if you check into a place enough. The update is only available on Android phones for now, but expect iOS users to get the update in the near future. Update your Google Maps app on the Android Market for these new features now.
