RIM will block pornographic content access from BlackBerry devices in Indonesia

Remember a couple of days ago we mentioned that the Indonesian government threatened to ban BlackBerry services in their country if RIM didn’t adhere to their demands? Well, it looks like RIM has finally caved in and let them have their way. RIM has agreed to block all pornographic content accessed through their BlackBerry Internet Service. This marks the first time that RIM has ever agreed to filter content from reaching users’ BlackBerrys. It looks like if you’re trying to be a worldwide service, you’ve got to give in sometimes. It hasn’t been announced when the filter will take effect, but it shouldn’t be too far away. Indonesia has also asked for RIM to move their servers over from Canada (where RIM is based) to Indonesia to make it easier for the government to find out what its citizens are up to. Don’t you think that’s a little too much?
