Android 2.2 Froyo being used by over 50% of Android devices

While plenty of Galaxy S owners out there are crying foul over the lack of an Android 2.2 Froyo update, Google has released an official chart showing the market share of various versions of its Android operating system. It might be painful for Galaxy S owners to see, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone to see that Android 2.2 Froyo holds the most market share with 51.8%.

If the alarming 0.4% share of Android 2.3 is making you feel uneasy, you might want to remember that it’s only available for the Nexus S (officially) at the moment, so you might want to rest easy on that one. Android 1.5 is still around, though it’s limited to a meager 4.7% and should be slowly phased out. With Android 2.3 already here, we’re looking forward to seeing Android 2.3 adoption overtake Android 2.2 Froyo.
