Samsung Intercept Froyo update fix available

Published

on

What happens when users rush to download an update for their phones as soon as it is released, and it turns out to be faulty? Well, in the case of the Samsung Intercept, it’s not very pretty. The recently released Froyo (Android 2.2) update for Samsung’s slide-out QWERTY Android phone has been reported to brick quite a number of them. Good thing that Samsung and Sprint have been quick to respond to the problem. They have issued a fix that is available online for everyone to use in the event that they don’t have the time to go down to the local Sprint store, or they just want to take things into their own hands. Hit the break for the full instructions.

You’ll need to have Froyo installed on your Intercept for this patch to work (if you didn’t install the Froyo update, then you shouldn’t need this patch since your phone wouldn’t be bricked).

Instructions courtesy of The Droid Guy:

1.            Download the fix here and save it to an SD card

2.            Put the SD card in phone

3.            Remove battery

4.            Replace battery

5.            Hold Volume Down, Talk and End until “Android system recovery” screen comes up

6.            Scroll down to the second option “apply sdcard:update.zip”

7.            Press enter

8.            Find something else to do for about ten minutes while the phone fixes itself and restarts
