Samsung has just announced their new NFC (Near Field Communication) chip with embedded flash memory. It will be the first of its kind in the industry to have embedded flash memory, a feature which ensures that its firmware and software will be easily upgradeable in the future. Samsung’s NFC chip also feature a low power design (it uses so little power that it can remain active for mobile payment even without battery power!) with an advanced RF (Radio Frequency) sensitivity, which makes it a competitive choice for manufacturers to include in their next generation smartphones. Usage of the NFC chip in phones will allow people to use the phones as tickets for public transportation, e-wallets, identifying RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags in stores or outdoor billboards for convenient on-the-spot data access- it basically brings the functionality of your phone to a whole new level. Samsung’s new NFC chip is scheduled for mass production at the beginning of next year so we should expect to see it in phones by the end of 2011.
