RIM has larger PlayBook tablets in store for us

RIM’s co-CEO Mike Lazaridis made some interesting announcements at the D: Dive Into Mobile conference earlier today. He confirmed that the 7″ model was the perfect size, but they will be arriving in different sizes in the future. Unless the tablets get smaller (unlikely), the other models should be larger than the current PlayBook. Lazaridis also mentioned that Apple and Google started off in the tablet business on the wrong foot- they upsized their mobile operating system, while RIM are starting from scratch with a brand new operating system. When asked about Flash, he responded “Why would you limit yourself?” implying that Flash would be a possibility on the PlayBook tablet. In response to their loss in market shares, Lazaridis went on to say RIM “invented the smartphone” and that they were focusing on world share instead of the US. The co-CEO of RIM is very optimistic about RIM’s position in the business; and for their sake let’s hope they pull off the PlayBook right.
