More reasons to join the army- a smartphone for every soldier

The US Army has been reported to have plans to give each soldier an iPhone or an Android-based phone, plus pay for the bill. Still in the planning stages, the Army cites the versatility and utility of smartphones as reasons for them to pack one each. Smartphones can be used to display maps, intelligence, translate, allow battlefield communication, and even collect biometric data from their enemies. In addition to smartphones, they have plans for incorporating tablets as well. Looks like we’ll be seeing tweets and Foursquare check-ins from the battlefield. Hopefully this doesn’t affect the performance of soldiers in the future. What do you think? Should soldiers be carrying a smartphone to the battlefield? I’d hate to imagine what an iPhone that’s been hit by a bullet would look like. Ouch.
