Newspaper readers more likely to cancel print subscriptions if they use an iPad

It looks like Apple is set to take on the newspaper industry with their iPad. According to a recent survey of 1,600 people done by the Reynolds Journalism Institute, they discovered a number of interesting facts. According to their survey, 78.6% of iPad users spend at least 30 minutes on a typical day reading news on their iPad and 48.9% spending an hour or more doing the same activity. Out of those who use their iPad for news more than an hour a day, 58.1% said that they are very likely to cancel their print subscriptions within the next six months. 30% of them do not subscribe to printed newspapers and 10.7% said that they have already cancelled their subscriptions and converted to reading digital newspapers on their iPad. If this trend goes up, and more people start buying iPads (Analysts predict apple will sell 21 million iPads in 2011), printed newspapers could face an untimely death if they don’t do anything about it. Just like everything else in life, it’s the survival of the fittest, and in this case, it looks like they’ll need to get with the times and release a digital version to stay alive. What do you think? Do you still get your news in printed form?
