Navteq purchases Trapster

Published

on

Navteq, a navigation company owned by Nokia, has just purchased Trapster, a service used by people to warn each other about speed traps and road blocks. It is a useful service that helps people avoid getting in trouble with the law- but it also encourages people to break the law when there are authorities around. It is unclear why Nokia would purchase such a company, but it suggests that Nokia/Navteq could be implementing Trapster in future versions of their navigation apps. Or Nokia could just want access to the 9.4 million users who use the Trapster service. If nothing else, it could just be a simple acquisition of the company because it was making money, but it’d be interesting to see where Nokia takes this. What do you think? Are you a Trapster user?
