LG goes green by utilizing Eco-Magnesium in all mobile devices by 2012

LG has just announced that they will be doing their part to help the environment by replacing all regular magnesium inside their mobile devices with Eco-Magnesium, a new type of clean Magnesium alloy, by 2012. During production, Eco-Magnesium doesn’t create substantial amounts of sulphur hexafluoride- one of the most dangerous greenhouse gases ever discovered. By using Eco-Magnesium in mobile phones the quality of the devices are not affected and the amount of carbon dioxide emissions during production will also be reduced- in this case, by 4kg for every handset LG makes. No word on whether this will affect the price of phones and if LG will be doing anything to offset the costs, but if it does cost more- I guess that’s the price of going green. How important is a phone’s environmental impact to you?
