iUnika, a company from Spain that focuses on “green” electronics, have just completed its Series A funding round (a company’s first significant round of venture funding in the Silicon Valley model of startup company formation) by initiating an expansion in the North American market. The company will be bringing its tablets, e-books, netbooks and notebooks to our country by first targeting the education sector. After it has established some ground, it will start expanding into the general consumer market and this is where things get interesting. iUnika has been known for their environmental-friendly technologies- biodegradable plastic casings and solar powered mobile computers and with Apple, another company also known for wanting to go green, a collaboration between the two companies might be possible in the future. With iUnika having some experience creating tablets, it does make sense. iUnika said they will be forming partnerships next year and it wouldn’t be surprising if we see them strike a deal with Apple. In the meantime, stay tuned to these guys as they start bringing their green devices to the market.
