Housewives busted for smuggling iPads into the country

The demand for an iPad in China has been so high that even smugglers have found a way to make a living off them. In China, the WiFi-only version of the iPad is the only pad available for sale in the market. Users who want the 3G experience have resorted to importing 3G versions of the device into the country. And because their government started to tax its people for importing the iPad, even if it was for personal use, they have turned to obtaining these iPads from smugglers instead. Smugglers pay random people with no criminal records to help them ferry goods across the border. In one of the latest cases of smuggling, 14 housewives were busted trying to smuggle 88 iPads and 340 mobile phones into the country! One of the women caught had 65 handphones strapped around her waist, and another 20 in the handbag she was carrying! But this demand of the iPad in China should drop a hint for Apple to focus a little more on their markets other than just America if they intend to make everyone happy, lest the people in China decide to get counterfeit and copy cat tablets instead of spending money on Apple’s own tablet- there’s still a lot of money to be made using the tablet’s potential. Would you purchase a smuggled good if it was the only way you could get your hands on it?
