Google Nexus S flies into orbit and returns safely

When it comes to doing things out of the ordinary, Google has always been onboard. In their latest endeavor, a team of Google engineers and some students from the University of California launched a selection of Google Nexus S phones into orbit just to test how the phones will perform under extreme cold and at altitude. The seven Google Nexus S phones were wrapped in Styrofoam beer coolers and brought into the skies by huge helium weather balloons. The phones all survived and made it safely back to Earth. Now that Google knows their Nexus S phones can operate under such conditions, Google has plans to turn the guts of the phone into the basis for small satellites. Google are currently in talks with a UK-based satellite maker to create these Android satellites. Don’t be surprised if we have Google spy cams in the future, collecting all our data from space. And kudos to Samsung for creating a phone that can still function properly despite being put under harsh conditions.
