Control your iPad without touching the screen

How many of you have played with the Kinect? Ever wished that you could use the same gestures to control your iPad as well? It looks like you’ll be able to in the near future. The folks over at Elliptic Labs have come up with a Touchless Gesture User Interface which allows users to make hand movements or gestures similar to those used in the Kinect to control devices such as the iPad. The prototype, which will be demonstrated at CES 2011, is essentially a docking station for the iPad. Using ultrasound technology, the dock creates a “touchless zone” of approximately one foot around the iPad and will allow users to interact with the iPad using hand gestures within the “touchless zone”. Great for those times when you got your hands wet or greasy (i.e. in the kitchen) and you want to adjust volume controls/switch songs. Although the prototype has been designed for the iPad, the final product will work with a multitude of devices- all you need is a simple app/driver to ensure compatibility.
