Android 2.2 for Epic 4G not here after all

Remember the rumored Froyo (Android 2.2) update about for the Samsung Epic 4G that was supposed to launch on December 26? Judging from the disappointed looks on your faces, it didn’t arrive. A new letter sent out to Sprint employees says it all – “Despite what many websites are saying, Android software version Froyo 2.2 is still on hold.” Granted, the previous announcement wasn’t officially from Sprint, but many users have been let down by the huge delay and false earlier promises about Froyo arriving before the end of the year. The words “on hold” and “near future” aren’t very promising. If only there was an exact date that they could guarantee its release. Could this be a ploy by Samsung to sell more Nexus S phones? Looks like rooting or replacing your phone is going to be the only way that you’ll get to upgrade your Galaxy S phones in the states. What do you guys think?
