Move over Samsung, it’s time for a new AMOLED screen to rise. The Taiwanese Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has developed a 6″ flexible AMOLED screen that is just 0.1mm thick. With a folding radius of 5cm or less, and the ability to show images even when folded makes this one very impressive screen. It can also be scrolled up to 15,000 times which signifies quite a long lifespan. Calling it FlexUPD, ITRI also claims that it is the simplest and cheapest technology for mass production paper-like displays. It will be commercialized soon, so hopefully we can see the usage of these screens used in cutting edge phones in the near future. Imagine the possibilities- paper thin phones that can be easily folded and put into your pocket. The future sure looks like a nice place to be.
