Gingerbread to support NFC and arrive in the next few weeks

Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, at yesterday’s Web 2.0 conference announced that Gingerbread will be arriving in the next few weeks. One of the main points about Gingerbread revealed is that it will have support for Near Field Communication (NFC). Google wants our phones to be used as identification and credit cards in the future- with all the private data contained in them, it looks like losing one is going to be a much more troublesome. Eric Schmidt didn’t speak much about the operating system, but he did show off a phone which looked like a Nexus S, running Gingerbread. Looks like we’ll be seeing Gingerbread in time for Christmas after all: if “few weeks” turns out to be true. Who’s excited for its arrival?
