Custom Froyo ROM running on Xperia X10

One of the best things about Android phones is that after rooting, you can essentially do anything you want with them. One of the things that people like doing is to install a custom ROM on the phone. A custom ROM is a standalone version of the operating system (in this case Android) that is loaded onto a device manually. Custom ROMs are usually optimized, have additional functions, and run newer versions of the operating system when compared to the phone’s original ROM. In this case, Xperia X10 users have been stuck on Android 1.6 for a long time, and Sony Ericsson’s latest update only brought Android 2.1 whereas 2.2 has been out for a long time. Since it doesn’t look like the Xperia phones will be getting an official update for 2.2 any time soon. Someone at xda-developers decided to take matters into his own hands and brought Android 2.2 to the Xperia X10 using a custom ROM. The custom ROM is still in development right now and isn’t ready for daily use, so Xperia users, hold on tight. In the mean time you can watch a video of the custom ROM on the X10 after the break, and keep an eye on the ROM’s development here.
